Investor's problem: How to reduce the cost of electricity used by space cooling equipment?

APA Solution

The applied cold accumulators are connected to an IT System, which monitors their operation on an ongoing basis. Based on the defined geographical location of the cold accumulator, the system is able to plan the optimal work schedule for the next few days. Depending on the weather forecast, you can plan how much to charge the cold accumulator and thus adjust its energy needs while saving money.

Our approach

The ICEON project consists of a cold accumulator or accumulators and an IT System to manage them. The aim of the project is to change the way air conditioning is approached in businesses and households. By cold accumulators we mean devices that contain a vessel with water (depending on the model of the accumulator, there may be more) and a controller responsible for the operation of the accumulator. The water is cooled to a temperature where it turns into ice. Depending on the configuration of the unit, ice is converted to cold, which is then transferred to the business or household for cooling. A cold accumulator can be mounted outside or inside a business or household. This is an individual customer issue.

In households, you run the air conditioner on demand when high temperatures or hot weather occurs. In enterprises, air conditioning is a permanent part of production. When it comes to fruit or vegetable storage companies, temperature is of colossal importance as it affects the storage time of the various products. How can costs be optimized in both of the above cases?

A regular air conditioner runs on demand, drawing electricity when it does its job. With a cold accumulator, it is completely different. You set the time of charging, or accumulation of ice by the device. For households or businesses that use a dual-zone tariff (households e.g. G12 and businesses e.g. C12) there are a minimum of two electricity rates. The cold accumulator is then configured to charge and store ice at times when the rate is lower, such as at night or on weekends. This functionality saves money by using cheaper electricity to store the cold. In addition, you avoid loading the power grid during peak hours.

Benefits

The cold accumulator is configured to store ice at times when the lower rate is in effect, such as at night or on weekends. This saves money by using cheaper electricity. In addition, you avoid loading the power grid during peak hours.
